Major Notice from TIMS WHIMS

AFTER 11 YEARS OF POSTING MY BLOG ON SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HORSE RACING, I HAVE DECIDED THAT I WILL NO LONGER BE POSTING ON A DAILY BASIS.

This was a very hard decision for me to make. I started posting my picks and selections in August of 2005 on the internet. It has always been free to the readers and I tried to keep it advertising free after a couple of years. My main goal was to help new players and to draw them into racing sport.

I have watched the decline of horse racing over the years and it is very sad to see. The quality of the horses is no longer there. The greed of the tracks in exotic betting has taken from the betting pools. Major races are moved so that they will not be in the pick six races. The major job is to "get a carryover" as that is where the tracks make the best and largest amount of money.

The win, place, and show pools have been depleted by various exotic pools. The smaller player is unable to bet the amount necessary in order to have a chance at winning.

When I watch on a daily basis and I see what some of the Jockey's are doing it is a disgrace to the sport. Pulling horses back, swinging very wide on the turns, taking a front runner to the back and the trying to make him close at the end. Taking a closer and pushing him to run out front for the race. The worst of all is when they are not going to be 1st or second they don't "ride the horse out". This hurts the players who bet a trifecta, super's, etc.

Entering horses just to "fill" races is now a regular event and often a race is used as a "prep" race with the betting public not knowing that there is no intention to try a win the race.

The stewards make more and more interesting calls on the races and seem to miss the obvious infractions that occur on a regular basis. They need to get rid of "did it cause him a position" rule. An infraction is all they should be looking for in the races. We need to get rid of the discretionary decision they are able to make. I HAVE WATCHED THIS DURING MY 59 YEARS OF RACE BETTING AND IT IS NOW AT IT'S WORST.

I WANT TO THANK MY WIFE WHO HAS HELPED ME EVERY DAY THAT I POSTED WITH THE PAPER WORK AND INFORMATION GATHERING AND GOING WITH ME TO WATCH THE RACES AT THE CASINOS OR TRACK. I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO IT WITHOUT HER.

I WANT TO THANK YOU, THE READERS OF TIMS WHIMS. YOUR COMMENTS HAVE BEEN APPRECIATED, I HAVE MET SEVERAL OF YOU IN PERSON
AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HAVE A LOT OF FUN.

I MAY POST OCCASIONALLY IN THE FUTURE BUT NOT ON A REGULAR BASIS.

I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK.

TIM (and my wife ANN)

Comments:
Thank you Tim. I still remember the first time my wife and I won a trifecta at Del Mar because of your picks. We appreciate your comments and they will be missed.

Happy Thanksgiving. Cheers to you and your family.

Tim enjoyed your rankings over the years. Is there any aspects of your system you are willing to share so I could do the point rankings myself? johncapriotti55@yahoo.cm

Tim -
You got me in to racing in 2006. I now travel the SoCal circuit regularly and also make it to KY and Satatoga meets almost annually. I love the sport and you've helped make it profitable for me. I'll miss your posts - you had some really great angles in your formula.
Many of your frustrations mirror my own. It is preventing others in my generation (I'm 34) from investing their time and resources in the sport. The greed is ugly, but the horses remain beautiful. Hopefully the sport fights back. Much appreciation to you sir. Happy thanksgiving

Tim, it's heartbreaking to hear these words from the only source that I blindly trusted and was my final determining factor before placing a bet. I've been enjoying horse racing for over 25 years and at one time wanted to be a jockey myself. I wanna thank you for the brilliant job that you've done and it will be missed tremendously by many like me. Thank you!!! Wish you & family a Happy Thanksgiving!! God Bless!

Thank you, Tim for all your hard work! I've been watching to horses nearly all my life, but took a more serious interest in them and started betting about 2 years ago. Because of my close proximity to Santa Anita, I have met a lot of people in the industry. They have expressed the EXACT same concerns that you have posted here. Its very sad to hear, and I have begun to see the same things myself. I appreciated your daily posts, and even won some large pick 4s based on throwing in some of your long shot picks! For a newbie, it was awesome! I felt like your picks were my "secret weapon!" I hope you continue posting periodically. I will look forward to them. - Maria Case

Tim, i would like to say i greatly appreciate the time you took to post your picks for the public. Like many others i thank you for it, for selfish reasons it is sad to hear this news but I totally understand where you are coming from. Is there anyway you can share your formulas?

Thanks,

I agree.. maybe sell a program that includes all the factors

Appreciate your devotion to the sport. I too have noticed how jockeys don't give the effort and pull back toward the finish almost like they aren't supposed to finish in the top 3. Maybe the whole system is corrupt or maybe it is just a pack of fixers amongst the jockeys. Whenever money is involved anything is possible. Ever notice how many 1 to 5s or 2-5s that run 4th when they have a hundred grand to show on them? That isn't a coincidence. Thanks again.

thanks Tim.It has been fun following your picks.I have been using your page for 2 years and you have givin me a lot of horses in the money.I'm going to miss it.

I feel the same way you do on a lot of the comments you made.I have written to SA and Del Mar about the amount of horses they put in some races and told them I would not bet races with 10+ horses in them.

Been reading these for about 5-6 years, thanks for all your work. You were always a huge help when we went to the track! I hope the rest of your life is amazing! :D

Thanks so much for all of your whims! I enjoyed looking at your numbers every time I went out to Santa Anita. I hope you enjoy your next endeavors.

I'm twenty seven years old and started playing the races at Santa Anita park about four years ago I found your page as I was looking for handicap tips. I have to tell you I really appreciated your number rating. I hope you and your wife are doing well I keep checking on race days hoping you might put something together again soon. As a new player I hope the races remain fair, in conclusion THANK YOU.... sincerely Tony

Thank you for the many days you've helped me at the races. Mary

Are you ever gonna come back? It's been awfully long time that you've gone.
