SANTA ANITA - HANDICAPPING PICKS AND SELECTIONS FOR THURS.
Thur. recap- While we were able to break even for the day at Santa Anita it was a very good day to show why 1st time starters must be considered. Four races had 1 st timer starters in them. All four of the races were won by the 1st timers. In 3 of these races our top 1st listed horse won the race. In the other, our 2nd listed 1st timer won. Race 1- Top 1st timer won (9.40) 3rd pick 2nd (7.40) 4th pick 3rd (3.80) top pick 4th, 1st timer keyed or boxed with picks- Ex (34.40) Trifecta (139.40). Race 2- Top pick won (4.00) 2nd pick 2nd (4.20) Ex (8.60) 4th pick 3rd (no trifecta offered). Race 3-Top 1st timer won (9.80) 5th 1st timer 2nd (83.30) top pick 3rd (3.00) 2nd pick 4th. Top 2 picks with the 2 1st timers- Ex (339.60) Trifecta (1,857.20) Superfecta (9,828.90) No I did not have it. Race 4- 2nd listed 1st timer won (14.80). Race 5- 4th pick 4th. Race 6- Top pick won (8.20) 4th pick 3rd (4.80). Race 7- 4th pick won (5.40) top pick finished 3rd in photo but was D'qd and placed 4th. Race 8- Top 1st timer won (15.60) top pick 3rd (2.60).
REMEMBER- 1st time starters cannot be rated with my system. They must be considered. I will list the 1st timers in the order I believe they will finish.
ALWAYS REMEMBER- The 5 point difference between horses rule - Any horse that is rated within 5 points of each other has a good chance of beating each other on any given day. You should also consider a horse who is dropping or moving up in class. If drop is large enough he may be very competitive with the horses at this level. The same is true with a horse moving up the class level. If the jump in class is too much he may have a difficult time being competetive with these horses.
